A comprehensive report of the PAP training at Attappadi, Kerala conducted during 11th December 2023 to 09th January 2024
The seventh batch of the Plumbing Apprentice Programme (PAP) training was conducted as an outreach upskilling activity and intervention of IIT Palakkad at Attappadi, Kerala. The training was organized in collaboration with the Technology Innovation Foundation of IIT Palakkad (TECHIN) and the Global Sanitation Center of Excellence (GSCOE) of IIT Palakkad. This curated training was given to the most deserving candidates with funding support through the CSR initiative of Petronet LNG Limited.
The 24-day-long training program was started on the 11th of December 2023 and completed on 09th January 2024. Upon course completion, an internationally recognized upskilling course certificate was jointly given by the stamps of IIT Palakkad & International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). A Do-It-Yourself Plumbing Tool Kit was also provided to the candidates comprising of essential plumbing tools that enable them to take up plumbing services immediately after the training.
During this one-month-long extensive training, 22 candidates (identified from Pudur, Agali, and Sholayur sectors of Attappadi) were comprehensively trained as professional plumbers who can effectively roll out the focused mission programs on water and sanitation envisaged by state and central governments like Jal Jeevan Mission, Amruth 2.0, Swachh Bharath Abhiyan etc.
A valedictory function was organized on 09th January 2024 upon which 22 successful participants received their course completion certificates and plumbing tool kits from Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar (Director, IIT Palakkad) and Shri. Ashish Gupta (Chief Manager-CSR, Petronet LNG Ltd). During his valedictory event address, Prof. Sekhar emphasized the responsibility of higher education institutes like IIT Palakkad to invest time and resources in training and upskilling the neighboring underprivileged communities and ensure their livelihood opportunities and self-sustenance. He said that focused vocational upskilling like PAP training will boost our nation’s journey in its “Amrit Kaal� with a vision of becoming a progressed nation by 2047.
This initiative will further embark on and strengthen several such activities and collaborations of the IIT Palakkad, associated funding partners, and interested stakeholders on vocational upskilling of underprivileged communities with much-focused attention. As the outreach activity progresses, one more batch will be trained soon.
